The 2003 Thunderace was among the final years of Yamaha's FZR1000-engined litre sportbike, with the same 1002 cc carburetted four, aluminium twin-spar frame and 198 kg dry weight. It was valued for midrange power, handling close to a 600 and strong front brakes, with mirror vibration and a wide seat-to-tank junction as minor irritations.
